I am very excited for this blog post because after months of planning we are only a few days away from the Filleo Project New Orleans!  Today I am picking up Jed Zayner and his crew from the New Orleans airport.  Jed plays for the Columbus Crew and started his own non profit called Filleo.

Filleo is all about giving back and over the next four days they plan to do that in New Orleans.  I am honored that my company, Jared Montz Soccer could be a presenting sponsor of their trip and help put on the free soccer clinic for underprivileged kids in New Orleans on Saturday.  Besides the clinic Jed, his wife, and another friend will be staying at my house for a few days.  We will be volunteering on Friday and helping to rebuild one of the New Orleans public schools.  Jed and his crew will also be doing more volunteer work on Sunday with a local church.

Here is what Jed Zayner himself had to say about the Filleo Project.

JM – What is the purpose of the Filleo Project New Orleans?

Jed - The purpose for the Filleo Project: New Orleans is to do exactly what our slogan says, “We aim to Fill the World with Love.”  We want to try and bring hope into underprivileged children’s lives. Also, we want to create a culture of giving by starting in our own lives and in our own neighborhoods.

JM – Are you excited to come to the New Orleans and give back to the community?

Jed – We are very excited to come to New Orleans.  My wife, Katie, and I have never been to New Orleans and we are looking forward to the trip. We are anticipating a very rewarding trip.  We can’t wait to meet the students and build relationships with new friends.

JM – What will you be coaching the kids at the clinic?

Jed – We wish we could teach the kids everything they needed to know about soccer in two hours, but we cannot.  The time that we spend with them will be about having fun, teaching fundamentals and playing games that put the basic skills to use.

JM – How cool are the free shirt all players will be receiving?

Jed – The shirts we are bringing down for the kids are sweet.  They were printed by Adidas- one of our partners for Filleo events.  Then we have our sponsors that have been such a great help to us in planing and helping for this trip. Thos sponsors being “Jared Montz Soccer” and “United Way Nola”.

JM – What is your favorite New Orleans dish you will be craving first once you get here?

Jed – Ha it is easy to say which New Orleans dish I crave most.  Jason Garey, one of the players our team, can make a great jambalaya and if I can have jambalaya that tastes close to his I will be very happy!
