Tonight the USMNT play Costa Rica in Washington D.C. at 8pm eastern time.  Game is live on ESPN2 and Galavision.   The boys clinched a World Cup spot on Saturday night against Honduras so the game is for pride now to be number one in the CONCACAF group.  In a sad turn of events, if you haven’t heard, USMNT forward Charlie Davies was seriously injured in a car crash that saw his friend die.  Charlie is in stable condition but has serious injuries that will take a long time to rehab from and hopefully in a years time he will get back to full physical and mental strength.  It has been a very sad past day or two for the soccer community.  To read a full recap of events and coverage on the matter head over to Matchfitusa.com and you can get up to speed.

Tragedies like this are never an easy thing to do deal with but it is amazing the support that comes from them.  People have been reaching out and showing there support like crazy in the soccer community.  A good soccer blog called “The Shin Guardian” is calling for a standing ovation in the 9th minute of tonight’s game to show your support for Charlie.  I saw somewhere that the 9th minute doesn’t start at 9:01 but rather 8:01 so remember that.  Or just cheer for a solid two minutes if there is any confusion!

Another thing I saw on Twitter, can’t remember who I saw it from, was someone made these number 9 signs (pictured above) to hold up at the game.  So if you are going to the game please right click on the image above, save it to your computer, and then print it and take it with you.  If you are like me and not in the D.C. area and want to show your support right click the image above, save it to your computer, and then upload it to your social network of choice.  Not sure if anyone has officially said to do this or not, but I know a lot of fans are putting images of Charlie on their profiles.  I plan on putting mine on my Facebook, Twitter, and Online Soccer Academy profile.
